Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. ECSA 57
The amalgamation of the former Departments of Agriculture and Food; Fisheries; Regional Development together with staff from our State’s nine Regional Development Commissions, will enable us to provide a strong and unified service for Western Australia’s vital primary industries and regions.
The role of the former Department of Fisheries is now within the Sustainability & Biosecurity Pillar, with Directorates of Aquatic Resource Management and Fisheries Science & Resource Sustainability Branches. Combined with a new fishery act, the Aquatic Resources Management Act (2016), Ecosystem Based Fishery Management and Ecosystem Based Management will be fully embedded in the new Department.
ECSA 57 is the first international marine conference where the former Department Fisheries will be represented by the new Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. ECSA 57 will be an opportunity not only to showcase our marine resources management, including fishery and ecosystem research and management, but also opportunities that the newly amalgamated Department presents to further enhance sustainable management.
