Victor de Jonge

Honorary Professor of the University of Hull, UK (since 1995), and an Associate of the Institute of the International Estuarine & Coastal Specialists Ltd (IECS, Hull, UK). He was awarded a PhD degree from the RUG (Groningen, The Netherlands) in 1992 and a DSc from The University of Hull (Hull, United Kingdom) in 2002.

Prior to retirement after 23 years as a civil servant with Rijkswaterstaat, National Institute for Coastal and Marine Management (Ministry of Transport and Public Works, now Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment, The Netherlands), he spent 12 years on policy supporting research and worked for 6 years on fundamental research at the University of Groningen (The Netherlands).

He has been a member of the Wadden Sea Advisory Board and the Wadden Sea Council. This Board directly advised the Ministers of Public Health, Physical Planning and Environ­ment, of Agriculture, Nature Conservation and Food Quality, and of Transport, Public Works and Water Management about all matters concerning the Dutch Wadden Sea.

Since 2010, has been the Editor-in-Chief of the Elsevier journal Ocean & Coastal Management and has a long-standing record as editor of several journals including Aquatic Ecology, Estuaries & Coasts and Marine Ecology Progress Series

He has published widely from over 5 decades of experience in ecosystem-based and sustainability science and management including structure and functioning related to concepts and tools for policy-making and decision-making and the effects of human interventions (waste, nutrients, dredging) to these systems.
